The river of Abay (Blue Nile)
Abay (Blue Nile) is a river originating at Lake Tana in Ethiopia. With the White Nile, the river is one of the two major tributaries of the Nile. The upper reaches of the river is called the Abbay in Ethiopia, where it is considered holy by many, and is believed to be the River Gihon mentioned as flowing out of the Garden of Eden in Genesis
Lalibela monolithic rock-cut churches
Lalibela is a town in northern Ethiopia that is famous for its 11 monolithic rock-cut churches. It is one of Ethiopia's holiest cities, second only to Aksum, and is a center of pilgrimage for much of the country. The layout and names of the major buildings are widely accepted, especially by the local clergy, to be a symbolic representation of Jerusalem.

The Obelisk of Axum
The original capital of the Kingdom of Aksum, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Africa. Axum was a naval and trading power that ruled the region from about 400 BC into the 10th century. The kingdom was also arbitrarily identified as Abyssinia, Ethiopia and India in medieval writings. In 1980 UNESCO added Aksum's archaeological sites to its list of World Heritage Sites due to their historic value.
